Papermaking Wastewater Treatment Plant
Wastewater Quality Characteristics
Papermaking wastewater is divided into three categories: pulping wastewater, papermaking white water and other comprehensive wastewater.
Pulping wastewater includes evaporative condensate of pulping black liquor and intermediate pulping wastewater.
Papermaking white water mainly comes from paper sheet forming, pressing and wire showering processes, with loss of fine fibers and fillers.
Other comprehensive wastewater covers floor washing water, equipment cooling water, waste paper pulping water, deinking flotation wastewater (if applicable), etc.
(1) Evaporative condensate of pulping black liquor: High COD concentration, good biodegradability and low suspended solids (SS).
(2) Intermediate pulping wastewater: Wide pH fluctuation, high colority and medium suspended solids.
(3) Papermaking white water: High SS mainly composed of fine wood pulp, calcium carbonate, talcum powder, etc., low COD, easy to treat and large discharge volume (accounting for 50%–70% of the total plant wastewater output).
Treatment Process

Technical Advantages
(1) Designed based on the core principle of separate collection and classified treatment for wastewater of different qualities to avoid impact loads from highly toxic and high-concentration pollutants.
(2) Great differences exist in pollutant concentrations among various wastewater streams; separate treatment reduces chemical agent and infrastructure investment costs.
(3) High-COD condensate is pretreated by anaerobic treatment to cut pollutant loads, which drastically lowers aeration energy consumption in aerobic units and reduces overall operating costs.
(4) Advanced oxidation and coagulation decolorization are equipped at the terminal stage to guarantee that the colority and COD of effluent meet discharge standards.
(5) The pretreatment system mainly adopts air flotation and sedimentation to recover fibers and fillers preferentially, realizing waste resource utilization.
