Community drinking water purifiers are centralized water treatment systems installed in public areas such as residential communities and villages. Their core technical approaches are primarily divided into two categories: membrane separation technology and adsorption technology.
Membrane separation technology is a widely used process in community water purification systems. Ranked from lowest to highest filtration precision, these can be divided into four levels: coarse filtration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, and reverse osmosis. Among these, ultrafiltration membranes can remove suspended solids, colloids, and most bacteria from water; reverse osmosis membranes offer even higher filtration precision, capable of intercepting contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, and heavy metals, but they have relatively high energy consumption during operation. Ultrafiltration systems require no additional pressure and can operate solely on municipal water pressure, achieving a high water recovery rate.
Adsorption technology primarily uses adsorbents such as activated carbon to remove organic compounds, residual chlorine, and certain heavy metals from water. In practical applications, community drinking water purifiers often employ combined filtration processes—such as combining activated carbon adsorption with membrane technology—to achieve more comprehensive purification results.
The selection of technology for community drinking water purifiers must be determined comprehensively based on the quality of the source water and the treatment objectives.
