Pressure Balancing: Operating Logic of Positive and Negative Pressure Protectors

In process systems such as biogas fermentation and gas storage, the internal pressure of containers can fluctuate due to gas production, gas consumption, or temperature changes.

In process systems such as biogas fermentation and gas storage, the internal pressure of containers can fluctuate due to gas production, gas consumption, or temperature changes. A positive and negative pressure protector is a safety device installed on fermentation tanks or gas storage tanks; its function is to automatically regulate pressure in the event of abnormalities, thereby maintaining stable equipment operation.

Positive Pressure Protection: When gas production inside the tank increases and the pressure rises to the preset upper limit, the protector automatically opens the exhaust port to vent excess gas. This action prevents the tank from deforming or being damaged due to excessive pressure.

Negative Pressure Protection: When pressure drops due to material discharge or gas consumption, creating a vacuum, the protector automatically opens the intake port to draw air from the atmosphere and restore pressure. This prevents the tank from collapsing due to negative pressure.

Main Types: Based on their structural principles, positive and negative pressure protectors are primarily divided into two categories: water-seal type and dry-type. Water-seal protectors utilize the pressure generated by the liquid level to balance the pressure inside the tank; when the pressure exceeds the set range, gas overflows or is drawn in through the liquid seal. Dry-type protectors, on the other hand, use air pressure to actuate a valve mechanism to perform air intake and exhaust operations. Both methods provide bidirectional automatic protection against positive and negative pressure.

By automatically admitting and exhausting air to regulate pressure during abnormal conditions, positive and negative pressure protectors provide a safety barrier for the operation of fermentation tanks and gas storage tanks.
